Overheard at the kitchen table:
Doll character: Barbara Pym sang so high she broke a glass.
Other doll character: Barbara Pym doesn't sing, she writes.
First doll: You sing so high you break glass.
Second doll (singing): I've been working on the railroad (crash!) . . .
I swear to you I am not making this up. A doll just said, "She does not sing. She is a novelist."

That's fantastic! Be proud.
I was trying not to laugh too audibly or type too noticeably. This was even funnier in real life: one child and her little tiny dolls, whom she was making speak in high, squeaky voices. I hesitate to let the whole world eavesdrop on things like this, because I'd hate for any child to become self-conscious at such a moment in play, but it really was too good not to share.
